DM6 was their most sensational product ever. The graphs below show my frequency response measurements which with reference to industrially available data seem reasonable but should be taken as indicative and relative rather than precise industry measurements. If you never heard of BGVP then you may have been living on another planet so far. I’ve read comments in reviews that people claim to see large variations particularly in the treble region. This has given me the opportunity to measure the consistency of frequency response between two sets ordered six months apart. The second set will eventually go to my son when he is next in the country. Value for money 4.5 Footnote - Manufacturing Quality and Frequency Response My DM6s have now had about 80 hours play time, in that period they have gone from bright and well detailed to extremely well balanced and in particular the bass has improved making the overall sound very lush, detailed and musical. Listen to Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Landslide’ and the airy nature is astonishing. I believe the treble setup on these iems is the winning factor creating a wide, airy and very open soundstage. Overall these iems are probably upper mid to treble centric for that reason. One will truly hear details to tracks that perhaps were never noticed before. The upper mids and treble give these iems their incredible resolution and detail. The mids deliver very punchy sound for instruments. If there was just a little more extension in the lower mids then vocals would probably be better balanced. Having said that it is not surprising with the focus of these iems to extract extraordinary detail particularly in the upper mids and treble. Vocals (particularly female) lack a little depth and very slightly on the harsh side of excellent. Vocals (depending on industry music editing) are staged between the front forehead and inside the head. The bass is very much present to the point of throbbing in my head! The clarity of cello and double bass in classical tracks is also good. These iems cope with bass adequately (examples Train’s ‘Mississippi’ The Police ‘So Lonely’ and Mike Oldfield long bass rift in Tubular Bells). Musically perhaps these iems are for listening to a few great albums at a time, in awe of the wide and airy sound stage but perhaps a little fatiguing for long periods. The violins just remain in the world of reality and the orchestral musical staging is superb. Listening to Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto pushes you to the edge of your seat rather than relax. However with the right cable there is a beautiful airiness and wide sound stage that puts a real sparkle on many music genres.

The BGVP iems do produce a lot of detail (listening for example to Chris Rea Road to Hell Album) that perhaps makes these iems not the best for a flight from London to Singapore. I have not noticed this and looking at industrial data the frequency response in this region is similar to my beloved Shure 846 iems and other more expensive models. Some others have claimed overhype and criticised the sharp drop of frequency from approximately 8kHz to 12kHz perhaps losing some crispness on symbols etc. There’s a lot of positive to hyper positive reporting about the BGVP DM6 iems.

The cable is on the thicker side, and a little stiff but tangles less than others. The stock 8 core silver/black cable has a right angle 3.5mm jack, is moulded at the MMCX connector end and fits well and pretty snug around my ears. Obviously they protrude a little more from the ears than Westone’s but not by as much as expected. For my ears, which are on the large side the iems fit well and with the right silicon tips, remain in place without problems. The DM6 iems were the first pair I have tried with a bigger casing.

I remain a big fan of Westone W series for shape and size for best comfortability. It is claimed the MMCX connection can change cables up to 5000 times without damage. The iems look very jazzy and are solid with the balanced armatures housed in a 3D resin printed cavity. Cable: 8 core copper & silver-plated mixed braided cable 125cm
